Show Notes

FANG NYC returned to New York Fashion Week with a collection that continues Fang Guo’s exploration of fashion beyond the traditional boundaries of gender.

Founded in New York in 2021, FANG NYC has built its identity around gender-expansive knitwear, clothing that moves fluidly between masculine and feminine references while remaining deeply connected to the body.

For SS27, Guo brought that philosophy into the runway environment itself. Presented at Arlo Williamsburg, the show began with performers moving through the space before the runway gradually emerged around them. Rather than separating the audience from the action with traditional rows of seating, guests gathered around a circular runway, turning the presentation into something closer to a shared performance.

The collection played with opposites: hard and soft, sheer and structured, masculine and feminine. Body-conscious knitwear, sculpted silhouettes, flowing fabrics and utilitarian details created a wardrobe that refuses the idea that genderless clothing has to mean shapeless clothing.

At the center of FANG NYC is a simple idea: clothing can be a tool for self-expression without requiring the wearer to conform to a predetermined category.

SS27 pushes that idea further, using the body, rather than the binary, as the starting point.

Organizer

FANG NYC is a New York-based gender-expansive fashion label founded in 2021 by Fang Guo. Born and raised in Beijing, Guo studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco before moving to New York. His experience within New York's queer underground became an important influence on the brand's approach to gender, identity and self-expression.

FANG began with the goal of creating clothing for people who felt underserved by traditional fashion categories. The label is particularly known for statement knitwear, body-conscious silhouettes and designs that move between traditionally masculine and feminine references. Guo describes this as a balance between yin and yang.
